Pop Music Pick Me Up: Korean Edition

Some of you know that I was born in South Korea and lived there for a few years before I moved to Utah. Since then I have always had a soft spot in my heart for Korean pop culture, particularly their pop music. I recently saw a video on CNN about Korea’s latest pop music craze that led me to youtube and now I’m here showing you everything I found.

His name is Psy, short for Psycho and he’s been in the music business for a while. He isn’t your typical Korean male pop star with the slim figure, porcelain skin, and cheekbones so chiseled they could cut you. He would be considered fat and kind of goofy. But right now, he’s in. Basically, this guy, Korea’s male Lady Gaga, created the new Macarena in South Korea. It looks pretty fun.

And then of course there are the Wonder Girls, my personal favorite of the Korean girl bands out there. I’ve blogged about them before but thought I’d share one of their newer singles which features Akon.

I don’t what is happening with these two guys but they crack me up. I present JJ Project’s hit single Bounce. They were produced by the same guy who put together Wonder Girls.

Lastly, this girl band blows every other girl band out of the water just by their sheer size alone. There are nine members of this singing group and they made their American Network television debut in January of this year on The Late Show with David Letterman. There’s a lot of hair and a lot of leg in this group and some how they managed to all fit on Letterman’s tiny stage.

Korean pop music is awesome.

Love,
JKJ

So, I’m going to South Korea in a month. I’ll be in Incheon for a week. What do I need to know?
