JKJ vs. Irene

The real deal: I’m in Rhode Island this weekend with friends and we decided against evacuating and are “hunkered down” for the next 24-48 hours. We figure it’s better than being trapped in our tiny New York City apartments anyway. After 5 PM we are still allowed to leave the property but we will not be able to come back if we do. The power is expected to go out in the middle of the night when the winds start to pick up. We have water in the bathtubs and all available buckets, pots and pans. Our house is equipped to withstand winds up to at least 125 MPH without even being boarded up so we feel pretty safe since the storm seems to be slowing down (I may have just made that up to make myself feel better). Tonight will be cosy and I may not have cell service (depending on which trees fall down) or the internet (because I don’t really understand how that works anyway) but we’ve got plenty of snacks, diet coke and water, so don’t worry about me! My Newest Obsession.

STORAGE WARS!!! Wednesday Nights on A&E! If you haven’t seen Storage Wars, you haven’t been watching reality TV right. That’s right, there’s a right and wrong way to watch reality television. I’m looking at you. Yes you, the one reading this and watching Jersey Shore at the same time. How could you?!?! Storage Wars is a show about a group of people, some Pawn Store owners and antique collectors, who bid for abandoned storage units. It’s awesome! They break the lock on the storage unit and the bidders are allowed to look but never touch. Then the auction begins!  Once they buy the unit, they search through it to find anything they might be able to sell. Here’s a little taste: Last night I saw one of the characters, Dave, find a lighting system that was worth $31,000. He paid about $2,500. (Might have those numbers off a little–I was sleepy.) But there’s always the fear that they’re going to stumble upon something scary–bones, bodies, blood.  One of these days, they just might.  I mean, THAT could be a good movie, no? And that’s where this post comes in. Every time I watch, I imagine what…. Storage Wars: The Movie …would be like and then I cast all the characters. Dave Hester would be played by comedian Patton Oswalt   Darrell Sheets would be played by comedian Louis CK Barry Weiss would be played by Jack Nicholson. Some might say that Michael Douglas is a better fit BUT Barry sounds exactly like Jack AND he’s kind of strange (also like Jack). Jarrod and Brandi Schultz would be played by...
